Do You Seek An Effective Alternative To Traditional Counseling Sessions?

Are you looking for a holistic, online approach to therapy that incorporates your mind, body, and spirituality into the healing process? Do you want to work on yourself and improve your life, but you’re too busy with your career and caring for others to make it happen?

Perhaps you’d like to have more control over your environment so you can feel more comfortable being open and engaged in therapy. Or maybe you’re so overcome by fear, social anxiety, or trauma that meeting virtually seems like the safest way to help yourself.

Teletherapy Is A Powerful Alternative To Traditional Counseling

For many people, especially in a go-go-go environment like the San Francisco Bay area, online counseling just makes more sense. You may be so focused on work and merely surviving that you don’t have time for in-person sessions. If you’re a professional, you could be on the road or out of town often, leaving you little opportunity to visit a therapist’s office.

Then there’s the hassle of navigating hectic traffic, taking time off from work, or finding childcare on a weekly basis. It may even be that leaving the house or trying something new generates more stress and fear than remaining in the same holding pattern of suffering.

The truth is: you deserve to feel safe, comfortable, and secure in this world—and life shouldn’t get in the way of that. With my support and guidance, I believe you can heal past wounds and enjoy greater confidence and satisfaction in how you live.

The Popularity Of Online Counseling Services Is Growing Rapidly

The use of teletherapy, particularly phone therapy, has been common for decades. However, over the last ten years, high-speed internet and video conferencing platforms have vaulted the popularity of e-therapy. COVID-19 took this to the next level as it became a vital necessity for people—many of whom were in crisis as a result of the pandemic—to have access to therapy.

What’s more, many people are over-tasked with working long hours, making stressful commutes, and managing impossible schedules too tight for a weekly visit to a therapist.

As a counselor, I definitely don't want to add any more to the burden you already carry. So if teletherapy makes life easier, I believe that is the way to go. After all, making a simple video call can be a more convenient and comfortable option compared to in-person therapy sessions. That’s especially true of the Bay Area where you’d likely have to use public transportation, find parking, or subject yourself to a hyper-stimulating environment that could be overwhelming.

However, working with a counselor online can be an invaluable source of support, guidance, and long-term healing. It’s convenient, accessible on the go, and just as effective as meeting in person.

Online Therapy Meets You Wherever You Feel Most Secure

Working online gives you a chance to engage in counseling in a space that is more comfortable and familiar than a therapist’s office. The resulting feeling of safety and security can help you better center and calm yourself, thus expediting the healing process.

Just imagine meeting online with your counselor while dressed in your comfiest clothes with snacks on hand surrounded by pillows, blankets, and soothing personal artifacts. It can be an incredibly empowering experience. Plus, online therapy is just as effective as in-person counseling for addressing a range of challenges, such as anxiety, depression, existential issues, and grief and loss.

Whether working online or in person, I’ll strive to develop a treatment strategy that’s customized to your unique situation. To do this, I can draw from a range of holistic and research-driven therapeutic models, including Gestalt, transpersonal psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Accelerated Experiential-Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy. These tools enable me to provide the same level of care for all of my clients regardless of context.

However, the most important aspect of counseling is developing a safe relationship in which you can attune to your deeper self and listen to—and express—how you feel emotionally or physically. That’s why I’ll continually check in with you to see how you feel about the therapeutic process.

How Does Online Therapy Work?

The only thing you really need for online therapy is a phone, tablet, or laptop plus a high-speed internet connection for video conferencing. Moreover, all of our sessions are completely confidential and conducted via a HIPAA-compliant version of Zoom. The only drawback to virtual counseling is distraction, so it’s important to make sure the space you choose to work from allows for some privacy.

You can get started by booking a free, 15-minute phone consultation through my online calendar so that I can field any questions or concerns you have. During that call we will book your first full video therapy appointment. You will also receive an email with information (including a link) on how to join our session. At that point, you’ll click on the meeting link and wait in a virtual waiting room until I usher you into our session. That’s it—no login necessary.

For many people, therapy in any context can be intimidating, but just because it feels scary or stressful doesn’t mean it’s not possible. With the right help and support, you can be more spiritually connected, feel better about yourself, and overcome personal challenges with confidence.

Whether you are navigating family issues, a difficult life transition, or a mental health condition, you do have someone who can guide you through. With my help, I believe online therapy can provide a gentler way of starting your healing journey—by walking through a virtual door to a new, fulfilling life.

Perhaps You’re Considering Online Counseling But Still Have Some Concerns…

Does online therapy work and is it as effective as in-person counseling?

A meta-analysis of various studies indicates that there is no difference in efficacy or outcome when it comes to online therapy versus in-person counseling. What matters most is your comfort as a client, which is why working with a therapist online can be so effective.

Instead of traveling to some unfamiliar place, you can work from home, your car, or wherever you feel safest. That sense of comfort and flexibility can actually enhance the healing process because it removes so many obstacles that would otherwise get in the way.

Is online counseling secure and private?

Therapists are legally and ethically required to maintain confidentiality and privacy. Any limits to confidentiality will be discussed during your initial session and will be provided to you in writing within your consent form for therapy. I will always conduct online therapy from a private and confidential location, using a HIPAA-approved video platform.

Will online therapy be covered by insurance?

That’s largely up to your healthcare provider; however, I can provide you with a receipt (superbill) for our sessions that you can submit to your health insurance for possible reimbursement. Although most health insurance providers cover telehealth therapy, you should check with your plan to make sure it does prior to our sessions to avoid any surprises.
